Working with Ashley this past summer was nothing short of magical! She helped turn my small hardscaped yard into a beautiful oasis of herbs, veggies and edible flowers using only containers! She observed my yard's limitations and was able to make tangible and easily to implement suggestions to have beautiful (and edible) plants growing in just a few weeks. I learned so much from her and was able to troubleshoot what was going wrong before it was too late. She has so much fun gardening and truly brings joy to it and allowed me to have zero experience with growing veggies and still succeed! It was a sad day when I had to put my garden to bed and I'm already planning for next summer.

I am new to Oregon and gardening in the high desert climate, Ashley and team helped me plan a vegetable raised bed garden that looks attractive and will last for many years. She also suggested a raised raspberry trellis as Oregon likes raspberries and so do we! Top quality and expertise. Highly recommend.

I recently attended Bend Urban Gardens’ workshop “Planning and Planting Your Fall and Winter Garden”. I am a Type-A, overthinking perfectionist. As such, I aspire to have a beautiful, productive veggie garden but tend to overanalyze what to plant, how to plant, where to plant and so on, to the point that I end up…not actually planting much. Analysis paralysis is a thing of the past after attending this workshop! Upon arrival, Ashley (owner of BUG) had coffee, banana bread, name tags and clipboards with worksheets and blank paper for note-taking (this spoke to my Type A heart!). We went around the table (on her gorgeous covered patio) and discussed what we are growing in our gardens, goals for our gardens and our current level of gardening experience. I was by-far the least experienced, with the smallest garden (I have a garden tower and 3 small patio containers). However, as each participant shared and Ashley took notes on a whiteboard, I found that virtually every comment and/or tip that she gave was relevant even to my tiny gardening endeavor. After the round-table discussion, we explored Bend Urban Gardens’ demonstration gardens and green house. We learned about tools, season-extending techniques, companion planting, pollinators and so much more. Interestingly, despite the wide breadth of topics and information covered, it did not feel overwhelming. Of note, Bend Urban Gardens offer personalized site consultations, crop plans, products such as raised garden beds and worm composters…yet there was no pressure or sense of being upsold. It’s obvious that Ashley and BUG are passionately dedicated to getting people gardening. We were even gifted complimentary access to BUG’s Crop Planning in Central Oregon Online Short Course (video modules), as well as access to BUG’s crop planning spreadsheets including a master template of common planting dates. I highly recommend Bend Urban Gardens. The workshop was very informative and Ashley’s enthusiasm and encouragement was motivating. I’m looking forward to planting for this fall and winter. And looking ahead to next spring.

I’ve always wanted to have a vegetable garden but since moving to Bend, had been unsure that I’d be able to produce anything due to the short growing season. BUG was able to consider our property and specific needs, wishes and budget and find a great solution. Ashley has a smooth and enjoyable process with so many steps simplified and provided for, as well as technical experience and knowledge, with brilliant ways to lengthen our growing season and allow almost anything to grow. I highly recommend!

I’m really new to gardening but had done enough reading and researching to totally confuse myself. We called Bend Urban Gardens and started from ground zero—Ashley helped us plan our site, we built kit beds from B.U.G., she set up our irrigation and taught me how to make changes, simple fixes, and additions with confidence. The knowledge and binder of information I received from my crop planning sessions with Ashley and subsequent on-site lessons with her were super helpful. But it wasn’t until this year—my first attempt to crop plan and garden on my own—that I realized how invaluable Bend Urban Garden’s services were to me. From start to finish, I think Ashley shaved YEARS off the learning curve and got me gardening so much faster than I would have been able to do on my own. I know high desert gardening is notoriously tricky but my garden did so well this year and we grew SO much food! And I love that I have Ashley as a resource down the road if we decide to expand our garden areas or run into any problems. It was probably one of the best investments we’ve made for our home and family to date. Highly recommend.
