Let me say this clearly: if you came to St. Louis and made it all the way to the Missouri Botanical Garden without stepping into the Climatron, you missed the crown jewel. This is not some random greenhouse — it’s the world’s first geodesic dome greenhouse, one of the most iconic attractions in St. Louis, and easily one of the most unforgettable parts of the Missouri Botanical Garden. We visited in March, when many outdoor gardens are still quiet and waiting for spring to fully arrive. Coming from Houston, the weather in St. Louis felt a little chilly to us. But the moment you walk into the Climatron, everything changes instantly. The air becomes warm and humid, the lush greenery surrounds you, and suddenly it feels like you’ve stepped straight into a tropical rainforest in the middle of Missouri. Inside this massive glass dome greenhouse, you’ll find an incredible collection of tropical plants and flowers from around the world. Towering palms, vibrant bromeliads, exotic foliage, orchids, and dense rainforest vegetation create layers of greenery that make the entire environment feel immersive and alive. What makes the Climatron especially fascinating is the architectural design of the geodesic glass dome itself. The structure allows natural light to pour in while supporting an entire ecosystem of tropical plants that thrive in the controlled climate. Even if you’ve visited many botanical gardens around the world, the experience of standing inside this iconic glass dome still feels impressive. As you walk along the pathways, the landscaping adds even more magic to the space. There are small streams, flowing water features, rock formations, and winding garden paths that guide you through the rainforest-like environment. The design makes it feel less like a greenhouse and more like exploring a living tropical landscape. Another wonderful detail is how the Missouri Botanical Garden blends art with nature. Throughout the garden you’ll find striking glass sculptures and artistic installations that add a creative layer to the botanical experience. It’s a beautiful combination of science, nature, architecture, and human artistry. Having visited botanical gardens in many parts of the world, we truly appreciate how difficult it is to maintain such a diverse collection of plants in one controlled environment. The Climatron houses species from multiple climates and regions, making it an impressive showcase of global plant life inside a single structure. So if you’re visiting St. Louis and exploring the Missouri Botanical Garden, the Climatron is absolutely a must-see. Even if your schedule is tight, this is the place you make time for. After all, when you have the opportunity to step inside the world’s first geodesic dome greenhouse, that’s not something you skip. Approved by Review Queen Powered by Monkey King Media 🐒

The quality of air is 11/10 when it’s not busy.

The climatron is a fantastic spot in the Missouri Botanical Gardens. It is a geodesic dome that contains a tropical rainforest, complete with waterfalls, palm trees, and other tropical plants. The exterior is especially beautiful during the Garden Glow over the holidays

I am a big fan of the work of Dale Chihuly, and the pieces at MObot's Climatron are beautifully incorporated into the nature they are surrounded by!
