The Neighborhood Harvest

Pretty much everything comes in plastic. A few things come in that rubbery kind of plastic that was made from corn or something, but most of it is regular plastic. They started offering a box of random veggies, which I opted for to cut down on the plastic use. First box was great. Second box, everything was in plastic! Why! also, they put certain things inside silver bubble wrap bags but they won't take back the bags, so that's one more thing going in the landfill. I do also have problems with the food itself too from time to time, occasionally stuff comes to me with mold on it or already rotting. Not too often but for example, the cherries I recently got had visible spots of white mold and looked like they'd been sitting out for a week, kind of shriveled and really unappealing. And the peaches recently have been completely inedible.

I can’t review the food as I haven’t used them but their delivery drivers are terrible. They tear through our winding neighborhood well above the speed limit in a large van. Incredibly dangerous and zero consideration for the kids, dogs and walkers who may be out on the road.

I wanted to like this service so much! I’m a huge supporter of farmers markets and similar local vendors and I figured this would be a great substitute during the off season. I was sadly mistaken. My first order had destroyed fruit so I called for a refund or credit. I was convinced to accept a credit and “give them another chance.” Well, 5 days later, 2 phone calls and 2 emails, and I still have no credit. I’ve been told twice it’s been added when it hasn’t and even sent an email saying so as well. It’s clear there’s disorganization not only in the area where foods inspected, but also in management itself. I am so disappointed in this service and I highly recommend you take your money elsewhere!

Everything I get from them is absolutely delicious. The butternut squash soup outstanding. The fruit medley with apples and other citrus things are delicious. Can't go wrong with them. And they bring it to your house. And they're great!

I've used NH on and off for several years now. I've always been happy with the quality of the produce and other foods I've received, and their customer service has always been very responsive. I think it's a great company. I simply can't continue to order from them though -- the huge amount of de-facto single use plastic that comes with each order is horrifying. EVERYTHING is wrapped (sometimes individually) or binned in plastic. Occasionally, something comes in a compostable bag, but that has been rare in my experience. For awhile, we tried a policy of trying to give each bag or container another use before discarding and making a new order, but that was unsustainable too. We've come to the conclusion that it is more sustainable to buy from a combination local farmers markets and organic grocery store produce and use truly reusable bags and containers. We wish them the best as a local business, but will not be ordering from NH again, unless we find they have changed their packaging methods. (And please don't respond saying the containers are recyclable... very little plastic is actually recycled, whether it has a symbol on it or not, and whether you put it in blue bin or not.)
