Jun 23, 2025It's May 2025 and here to provide update on large trees we bought from Pittsford Tree and Landscape (aka Village Garden Store) and they planted in Fall 2022. It’s been two years since we initiated efforts (Spring 2023) to get them to take responsibility and honor their written guarantee but to no avail. The attached photos were taken on May 7, 2025. They show the ridiculous way they chopped the root ball and then planted it bare root. This Sunburst Locust tree never had a chance of successfully transplanting. What replays with us are Bevin's initial words when we originally reached out with concerns about the health of the tree. She said, "Don't worry, I've never replaced a Locust tree." Well that's still true! Even when the tree dies and we are out significant time & money and need to start over with a reputable nursery, she NEVER REPLACED A LOCUST TREE!! AVOID BOTH PITTSFORD TREE & LANDSCAPE AND VILLAGE GARDEN STORE!!! Dishonest and a disgrace to small businesses. Original post: They won’t honor their written guarantee on 2 large trees we purchased and they planted in October 2022. We have been trying to address issues with these trees since spring 2023 and still don’t have a resolution 18 months later! Bevin never returns our calls or emails so we have driven to the nursery several times. Each time she lies to us by promising to come to inspect and trim the trees but does not follow through. She offered to extend the warranty to 3 years but refused to put it in writing. My last communication was requesting resolution sent a month ago via USPS Certified Mail…no response! We love to support small businesses but this one is terrible. They use the name of Pittsford Tree and Landscape, as well as Village Garden and Nursery. Attaching a picture of our Sunburst Locust tree in August…not exactly thriving.

Jun 17, 2024I have never written a negative review before. Really wishing I had read some of the reviews in regards to this company's responsiveness before deciding to go through them to purchase (2) large Norway spruce for my yard. I initially elected to plant both on my own. After planting both I was concerned that 1 of the trees was possibly too deep in the ground. I reached out to MVGS who came out several days later and stated they would like to replant/ fix the tree in the same location. They charged me the full planting fee of $162.50 which I paid without hesitation. After their work it didn't appear the root ball was much higher than when I did it but I trusted them as the experts. A few months later- (03/24/24) we experienced a significant storm and the spruce MVGS had planted for me had begun to tip. They sent someone out and secured the tree with additional stakes. A couple months later- (05/02/24) I began reaching out to MVGS to let them know the tree they were assisting me with did not look like it was doing well. It appeared thin and started to look different than the other tree I planted on my own in a different location. I spent the rest of the MONTH attempting to make contact with someone at the store in hopes that the tree could be saved. This included 4 calls and 4 voicemails plus a physical visit to the store. Finally on 05/29/24- I received a call from an employee at the store who told me they sent someone out to look at the tree, which was clearly dead at this point, and they determined that the location was too wet for the tree. The week leading up to this unannounced visit had a couple instances of heavy rain and they entire yard was wet. At the time of the planting, there was no water issue in the location I picked and there hadn't been before. During BOTH of the staff's previous visits to work on this tree, not once was it mentioned that it was a poor location in anyway. My understanding in paying for the tree ($325) AND the additional $162 planting fee, was that it would be covered if something were to happen to it. This is not the case and all they would offer is a free planting if I purchased an additional tree from them. I have planted several trees before and have never had an issue. I have left an additional voicemail and still have not heard back from this company. Very disappointed in my experience.

Oct 12, 2022One of the 12 trees The Village Garden Store planted in 2021 did not survive the winter. The trees came with a 2 year guarantee. I'm having difficulty getting them come to replace the tree that didn't make it. I notified someone in April and it is now October!
