Tidewater Tropicals

I stopped by Tidewater Tropicals last weekend, They have beautiful plants. All are well taken care of. The owners were so friendly and helpful and so were the employees.

I stopped by to pick up some banana plants and also some other low height plants. The owner/operators are husband and wife. I parked and walked up towards the cashiers building for assistance. I have a terminal disorder and walking is difficult for me and there is a continual incline. The wife comes down the hill in her golf cart as I am making my way up to the top looking for help. She stops and I am about literally about to fall down from exhaustion. She yells at me "YOU cannot sit on my golf cart, it is MINE!" I very nicely explained my condition which did not seem to matter to her. I was still unable to sit down. At this point my legs are trembling. She glared at me and said "What do you want?". I told her what I wanted and she said there were some down at the road and asked me why I didn't see them when I pulled in. I politely asked her to be patient with me and she glared at me again. Still didn't offer any assistance, or a ride back down to the bottom of the hill. She called her husband because she felt like I was in her space. Her husband is very helpful and patient which is why I gave two stars, and not one. He rode up on his golf cart (why don't they help people by offering them a ride beats anything I've ever experienced). He showed me smaller plants that I was looking for, assisted me in putting back the others, and offered assistance. A little kindness goes a long ways. Hebrews 13:2.

Nice selection of native trees for the Glo/Mathews area. Helpful, knowledgeable staff and convenient location.

Very knowledgeable and helpful. Had exactly what we were looking for, palm trees and banana trees.

Cute little local nursery. They sell all kinds of unique plants. I got a windmill palm from them, they were very knowledgeable and they plant their palms from seed right at the nursery. Windmill palms are Virginia hardy with the right care so if you’re looking to grow a palm tree in VA come here and they will help you out!
