Oct 18, 2025Recently bought a sizable number of plants from here and the staff was very helpful and attentive. They also provided a generous store rewards credit which was a nice bonus for our large order. Highly recommend for any of your nursery needs.

Sep 14, 2025A mixed review. I have a ten year old Japanese Maple this is an absolute beauty. The shape is amazing and it looks great all year. In the last three years we moved into a new home and made a lot of shrubbery purchases at Farmington Gardens on Farmington Road. I am having a 50% to 60% two year failure rate. I dug out three Rhododendrons and found a significant issue, the root balls were cut so severely when they were dug that it was insufficient to support the size of the plant. I replaced those plants with ones from a different nursery without further amending the soil and those plants are thriving. I have a row of seven identical Rhododendrons down the side of the house all planted at the same time all getting the same water and sun exposure. One is thriving, one is looking merely OK and rest look sickly two seasons later. When broaching this with one their associates, I was treated with complete disregard and disrespect and I wasn't even asking for or expecting a refund.. I left angry. I have stopped shopping here. Troubleshooting the issue... Let me add on here for those of you who may be interested. I dug and assessed the root issue with these plants. What seems to fit is that these are nursery grown plants, which were grown in pots in a largely peat based planting medium. Research indicates this can create a hydrophobic root ball. That's one that does really well at the nursery but can become dry and water resistant once planted in the garden. That fits my findings precisely. What I dug up was a dry fiberous root ball that had not grown whatsoever over a two year period. When I soaked it I got a glug-glug of air confirming the diagnosis. Likely I was a bit aggressive when 'teasing the roots apart' on the initial planting of the ones that are growing more successfully. The take away, it seems these plants may not be grown to be successfully planted in our gardens. If you buy plants here, be sure to address the hydrophobic peat moss ball issue. Regarding Farmington Gardens: Seems like a company that wants to sell plants a with planned path to failure, rather than a company that wants to help their customers to have successful and beautiful gardens. See you in two years and bring your debit or credit card.
