Gertens

Update: I hate to do this! But last night I visited Gertens for a plant fix with one of the 3 in mind: carnivorous, air plant or staghorn fern. They have a huge table of carnivorous plants, which would be amazing if they weren’t ALL dying or dead! I asked one of the staff kind of a trick question: “you’re watering them from your main source, right?” And she admitted that she didn’t know, which is fine- it’s better than giving false information. She said it’s a team that waters all the plants. The problem with what’s happening is that clearly the plants are all being watered with tap/municipal, and not distilled water. This WILL KILL and HAS KILLED nearly their entire stock of carnivorous plants. Only someone who keeps carnivores would be able to spot this. For exotics like this, I recommend visiting a smaller nursery that will take the time to water these plants appropriately or ordering them online from a specialty distributor. Often times fly traps, for instance, will wilt instantly upon taking them home (thus called “death traps”) and also be infested with tiny bugs that aren’t being eaten lol. I otherwise love Gertens and their specials, and have gotten some lovely (although seriously root-bound) plants, but I will have to lower my rating until something changes. Selling a giant stock of dying plants is not OK. Previous 5-star review: My mom used to drag me here as a kid, when I totally didn’t love plants- and now I’m coming here as an adult because I want to! I’m so glad Gertens is still around 💛 such a great selection of healthy and beautiful plants in a calming atmosphere. I went to Bachmans earlier in the day and they were actually selling a bunch of dying carnivorous plants and had either no idea or didn’t care when I pointed it out- some of these plants were $80. Just crazy!

Wish I could give these guys a negative 5 star review. I am a business owner and at the time I was seeking an account with this company had a wholesale account approved because the supplier i had for the past 5 years was retiring and the closed the end of 2025. Then I forgot my password and just needed to reset it, wasn't sure why it was taking so long so I tried to figure it out again and emailed them. I'm assuming I wasn't supposed to be part of this snobs group email, but she didn't even answer me but told someone my account had been suspended have no idea why, and never given a reason why.

The best holiday vibes in the twin cities! I came for a backyard ice rink liner. The rep walked me right to the liners. In and out in 5mins. I could have spent more time… cause the holiday vibes are off the chart, But I gotta a rink to freeze up👍🏽🤩👍🏽 Only problem is …my wife and daughters would never leave if I took them here😂

Great place. The ladies in the plant building are lovely and pleasent in their demeanor. Very helpful as well. The main store building is full of garden appliances and trinkets. I would definitely recommend this place. More so for garden refinement than building, but a very cozy and comfortable environment and good store in general

I always enjoy seeing Gertens at the Christmas season. They're decorated trees are beautiful. They have an expansive selection of holiday items. They have lots of gift ideas. Their spruce tips are nice and fresh. Gertens puts me in the holiday spirit!!!!!
